MIAMI, FL. -- Gwynedd Mercy closed out their trip to Florida with a convincing 82-62 win over Goucher at the HoopMIA Holiday Classic on Wednesday.
The Griffins (8-2), who shot 57% in the first half and 51% for the game, led from start to finish.
Cedric Elleby was the top scorer, netting 24 points, tying a season high.
Courtney Cubbage and
Ty Jones each added 10 while
Rip Engel doled out a career-high eight assists.
Matt Sommers would hit a three to open the game. A layup from Elleby at the 13:08 mark would up the lead to double digits. Goucher would make a 10-2 run to pull within three (21-18) but GMercyU opened up a 14-point cushion (40-24), thanks to a 19-6 spurt of their own. GM would lead 51-34 at halftime.
In the second half, Gwynedd kept the double-digit lead throughout. Jones' bucket with 6:03 left gave the team its biggest lead of the contest (78-50).
Elliot Wiley netted 18 points for the Gophers (2-9), out of the Landmark Conference.
Gwynedd outrebounded Goucher, 44-34.
Arron Goodman pulled down 10 boards while Elleby grabbed seven.
Drew Dietterich blocked three shots, a personal best.
The Griffins are now off until Thursday, January 5th when they resume CSAC play with a date at Clarks Summit.
