GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was frustrated by Albright as the Lions swept the Griffins, 3-0, Tuesday evening at The Griffin Complex. Set scores were 25-10, 25-18, and 25-21.
As a team, GMercyU hit below .000 for the third time this season while making 31 hitting errors, tying a season-high. For the night, Gwynedd posted a 26-31-104 (-.048) hitting line.
The first two sets saw Albright get out to big leads early on, taking advantage of the Griffin miscues. Â In the first, the team had just four kills and would never lead in the set. The second got off to a similar start unfortunately, as the Lions raced out to a 10-1 lead.
In the third, Gwynedd (8-9) started to click offensively, as
Casey Griffith started heating up, notching six of her match-high 13 kills in the frame. The team, who would trail 8-4, put together a run to take their first lead (9-8). Albright would come right back with five-straight points and later lead 20-13 to force a Gwynedd timeout. The Griffins cut it to 20-17 and again at 24-21 but could pull no closer.
Griffith also added 14 digs, a game high, for her eighth double-double this season.Â
Laura Kirk also reached double figures in digs with 13 while
Liz Schule chipped in six kills, two aces, and a block.
Maddy Greth and Cheyenne Robinett each posted seven kills for Albright (3-12).
The Griffins are right back at it here on Thursday when they host Moravian starting at 7 p.m.
