ASTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in three sets at Neumann (25-23, 25-12, and 25-15) in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Match Tuesday evening.
Casey Griffith led the Griffins (9-14, 4-5 CSAC) with nine kills.
Samantha Schearer added eight and
Brittany Albert kicked in five.
In the first set, in which Gwynedd totaled 12 of their 24 kills on the night,neither team led by more than five points which saw five ties and three lead changes. Down 12-9, GMercyU put together a run of four-straight points for their firsts lead. The Knights would answer with a spurt of their own, this time turning a 15-13 Griffin lead into an 18-15 deficit. Later, Gwynedd would trail 22-18 and would get as close as 23-22.
The second set saw the team fall behind 6-1 and unable to get their footing to catch up. In the third, Gwynedd stayed within arm's reach, but Neumann would use a 6-0 run to go ahead 20-12 and force a Griffin timeout.
Rachel Hoffman (eight kills) and Molly Murtha (seven) led the Knights (15-13, 7-1 CSAC).
The Griffins face a big CSAC showdown with Cabrini on Thursday here at The Griffin Complex in the team's final regular season home game.
