CENTER VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Volleyball team served up the start of their 2015 season participating in the DeSales University Invitational. The Griffins dropped the first two games of the Invitational to the host Bulldogs 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-10) and the Washington College Shorewomen 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-9).
Against DeSales outside hitters
Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) and
Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) led the Griffins with five kills apiece. Sophomore
Lauren Martin (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) also helped the offensive attack with three service aces and nine assists. Kirk led the team with nine digs with freshman
Maria Sansom (Chalfont, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) chipping in eight and Tressel adding eight as well.
In the nightcap against Washington College Kirk paced the offense with six kills with Martin hitting double digits in assists with ten.
Rachael Hall (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) led the defense with twelve digs while Tressel reached double figures with eleven.
The Griffins will look to bounce back tomorrow when they play Rutgers-Camden at 10 a.m. and Baruch at 12 p.m. Live Stats will be available for the Rutgers-Camden contest.
