Griffins Have Rough Go At King's Tri-Match

WILKES BARRE, PA. -- Heading up the Northeast Extension, the Griffins would return home with two defeats in a tri-match on Saturday, falling 3-1 (25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 25-12) to the host Monarchs of King's and a similar 3-1 score (26-24, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21) to Penn State-Harrisburg.

In the day's first match against King's, the Griffins could not overcome the .260 hitting percentage from the Monarchs. Two players reached double figures in kills for King's, led by Rachel Miller with 18 and Jill Korgeski with 10.

Junior Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) led GM with seven kills and 24 digs while senior Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) added six kills and 22 digs. As a team, Gwynedd hit just .075 (23-15-107).

The second match of the day saw the Griffins hit over.200 for the second time this season (30-7-107). Tressel kept the hot hand, totaling nine kills, along with freshman Samantha Schearer (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights), but the squad was guilty of 13 serving reception errors. Schearer also chipped in eight digs and a pair of service aces.

The two losses send the Griffins (2-9) to their third-straight defeat. Next week, they'll open up CSAC play when they welcome Neumann to the Griffin Complex on Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.
