BOX SCORE Game 2

IMMACULATA, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Baseball Team suffered two close losses to Immaculata in a CSAC Twinbill Thursday afternoon, falling, 3-2, in game one, and 4-2 in the nightcap.

Game one saw Immaculata, who advantage of four Griffin errors, scored all their runs, unearned, in the first, fourth and fifth. Gwynedd would get a runner to third in their final at-bat, but were unable to plate the tying run.

The Griffins put together two runs in the second courtesy of an RBI single from Austin Heimbach (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and later a sac fly from Christian Carmolingo (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine).

Reliever Connor Dilks (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville) helped preserve the one-run lead in the seventh after the Mighty Macs had runners on second and third, getting a foul pop up to get out of a possible jam.

Heimbach would lead off the bottom half with a double to left. Pinch runner Justin Forktus (Yardley, Pa./Conwell-Egan) entered and was sacrificed up to third by Carmolingo. IU's Kenny Anderson would come in a get a strikeout and a liner to left to pick up the save for starter Trevor O'Brien.

Senior Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) struck out eight and scattered five hits over six-plus innings.

In game two, Gwynedd saw IU score twice in the top of the seventh, breaking a 2-2 game. Errors plagued GMercyU again, as five miscues led to two unearned runs.

Junior David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and a pair of stolen bases while freshman Jason Mulvey (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) collected three hits a run scored and a swiped bag. Down 2-0 in the fifth, Blount drove home Mulvey, who tripled earlier. After stealing third, Blount scored off an RBI single from Chris Hens (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham).

Gwynedd, who had the bases loaded in the fourth, would get another shot to score in the sixth as Carmolingo walked and Mulvey followed with a single, all with two outs. Both would move up a bag on a wild pitch, but a flyout to center ended the threat.

In the seventh, Blount led off with a double, but was stranded there as IU's Collin Stringham came on to get three-straight outs to seal it.

Senior Rick Elfreth (Sicklerville, N.J./St. Augustine) gave up one earned run on seven hits, with three K's and two walks in a no decision.

Tomorrow's 'home opener' game with Centenary is tentatively scheduled for a 3 p.m. start. With inclement weather in the forecast, the game may be postponed to another date. Stay tuned to the Griffin Athletic website or the Griffin Twitter handle @GwyneddSports for updates.
