BOX SCOREREADING, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy scored 10 or more runs for the fourth-straight game in a 13-7 win at Albright on Sunday in non-conference action.
The Griffins (6-16) pounded out 15 hits, their third-most this season.
Senior
Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) went a season-high eight innings, scattering seven runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Leading 7-2 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Lions (11-15-1) would end up scoring five times to tie the game. In the next Griffin at-bat, GMercyU took the lead for good as junior
Chris Hens (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) scored all the way from first on a double from freshman
Jason Mulvey (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem). Mulvey would move up on a stolen base and later score on an error to put Gwynedd ahead to stay.
Rakus would allow just two baserunners over the next four innings before giving way to reliever
Andrew Hill (Octorara, Pa./Christiana) who tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard early when junior
Beau Fleming (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) grounded out in the first inning to score
Brett Kozlowski (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent). The Lions countered in the home half, plating a pair of runs to go ahead 2-1. Gwynedd retook the lead in the second when Hens' homer would score himself and
Shaughn Wright (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury).
Kozlowski would come around to score again in the third when he was driven in by
John Wallace (Linwood, N.J. / Mainland) and In the fourth Gwynedd would take a commanding 7-2 lead when Fleming drove in two runs with his bases loaded single.
Hens would finish 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs. Fleming was 3-for-6 with four RBI's. Kozlowski added four runs while he and Mulvey each stole two bases.
Chris Carmolingo (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) added a two-run single in the seventh.
The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday when they will host Haverford. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
