Danae Perrymond led the Griffins
with three goalsBALTIMORE, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy capped conference play on Saturday with a 9-5 victory at Notre Dame of Maryland.
The Griffins, who have now secured the #5 playoff seed with the win, were able to hold the Gators to just one second-half goal after trailing by one at halftime. GMercyU will head to fourth-seeded Marywood next Saturday in a first-round playoff matchup.
Junior
Danae Perrymond (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) totaled three goals and tied a career-high with four caused turnovers. Senior
Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) added two scores and an assist. Seniors
Toshoy Esson (East Norriton, Pa./Norristown) and
Sarah Lombardi (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville), along with freshmen
Arianna Hensinger (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Camden Catholic) and
Lauren Mitros (Glenside, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) also registered a goal.
Three Gator goals late in the first turned a 2-1 Griffin lead into a 4-2 deficit. Perrymond would tally an unassisted goal with 2:23 left in the frame as the score was set at 4-3 at the break.
Mitros' goal was the only scoring for the first 13:09 of the second, before Notre Dame got back on the board. From there, the Griffins put together a four-goal hammer over a six minute span to help widen their lead. Hensinger would put the cherry on top with her tally with just over two minutes in the contest.
Sawyer Butto had a goal and an assist for the Gators (5-6, 4-5 CSAC), who fell to the #6 playoff seed.
Freshman goalie
Bria Gillard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) would make six stops in net. Notre Dame's De'ja Martin recorded nine.
Gwynedd will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Elizabethtown at 7 p.m.
