BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Immaculata sent Gwynedd  Mercy to its fifth loss in a row, as the Griffins fell in a slugfest, 13-10, on Monday afternoon.

The Griffins had season highs in hits and at-bats, but also had a season-high 16 men left on base. The team would jump out to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play, but the Mighty Macs would score three in the fourth and five in the fifth to turn the tables.

Gwynedd (4-15, 4-7 CSAC) tried to stay within arm's reach, getting within 9-7 in the eighth, only to see Immaculata plate four more in the bottom half. Again, GMercyU tried to rally, getting three runs across to get within three in the ninth, but could not pull any closer.

Junior Chris Hens (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was a home run shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Christian Carmolingo (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI's. Freshman Brett Kozlowski (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) added a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Beau Fleming (Levittown ,Pa./Conwell-Egan) would triple in the first, his first career three bagger, and would come to score on Hens' flare to left. Gwynedd would score twice in the second and looked for more. With the sacks full and no outs, Fleming would ground out to cross another run home. Carmolingo would later follow with a sac fly to left to score Kozlowski.

Fleming would come to the plate with the bases full again in the third and was able to get a run home off a fielding error from IU pitcher John Ryan.

Starter Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) would escape a bases loaded jam in the first, and get 1-2-3 innings in the second and third before running into trouble in the fourth and fifth. IU (12-8, 7-2 CSAC) would score two on Rakus' throwing error to first on a sac bunt with two on and add another on an RBI single. In the fifth, IU's Chuck Wyckoff drove in a pair with a bases loaded single to right followed by Matt Lascomb's two-run double. Lascomb would score on a single to right giving the Mighty Macs an 8-4 lead.

After IU crossed a run in the sixth, Gwynedd countered with one of their own in the seventh thanks to Kozlowski's RBI double.

In the eighth, the Griffins got their first three batters  on board. Nick Campione came on for reliever Mike Campisano and was able to hold GMercyU to two runs in the inning, a run scoring groundout from Brad Humski (North Wales, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and infield single from David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman).  With two down and bags loaded, Campione would get Rick Elfreth (Sicklerville, N.J./St. Augustine) to fly out to deep center, keeping the Griffins behind, 9-7.

The Mighty Macs took advantage of five hit batsmen in the bottom of the eighth to score four runs on just one hit. Lascomb struck again, this time for a two-run single.
Down six going into their final at-bat, the Griffins looked to put something together to ignite a rally. Hens, who earlier tripled, would score off of Carmolingo's single to right. After a Shaughn Wright (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) double to put runners on second and third, Brandon DiCiano (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) added another infield hit to score Carmolingo. Wright would later score on a fielder's choice before a grounder to short ended the comeback attempt.

Rakus went five innings and was responsible for eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits with two K's, a walk, and three hit batsmen. Campisano earned the win for IU, giving up one hit in two and third innings of work.

Wyckoff finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI's while Lascomb drove in four runs on two hits.

Gwynedd Mercy will get right back at it tomorrow when they face off with Centenary in another rescheduled contest.
