WILKES-BARRE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was handed their first defeat of the season, falling 18-10 at King's Wednesday night.

Senior Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) led the squad with seven points on five goals and two assists. She added six draws, five groundballs, and three caused turnovers.

The Griffins fell behind 5-0 in the game's first 10 minutes as the Monarch's Sarah Almony scored three of her four goals in that stretch. Yori would net all three first-half goals as Gwynedd trailed 8-3 at the break.

After an early second-half goal from junior Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), King's would score four-straight in a three-minute plus span for a 12-4 lead. GMercyU put together a late scoring run, netting five in a row, with the last coming with 5:49 remaining in the game to get within 16-10. However, it would be the final goal as King's tacked on two more.

Anastasia Araviakis scored six times while Kendra McCoy and Gabriella Morrocu each had a score and an assist for King's (1-2).

Greer totaled three goals and an assist for Gwynedd (2-1). Senior Sarah Lombardi (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and junior Danae Perrymond (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) also scored.

Gwynedd Mercy was outshot, 24-14. Goalie Bria Gillard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) made two saves while King's keeper Victoria Zawacki recorded four.

The Griffins resume action on Monday when they welcome Lycoming to Gwynedd Valley for a 4 p.m. start.
