BOX SCORESCRANTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy bounced back Saturday and picked up a key Colonial States Athletic Conference victory with a 74-60 road victory at Marywood. With the win, the Griffins keep their head above water improving to 9-5 in the deep CSAC pool of teams in playoff contention.
Brian Hennessey (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) led the Griffins with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc.
Cedric Elleby (Monroeville, N.J. / Delsea) and
Arron Goodman (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) each added 12 apiece.
GM came out hot early to take a commanding 10-0 lead on a Goodman Layup. The Pacers would chip away and tie the contest (15-15) thanks to a Shane Letthand three pointer. Marywood would stretch their lead to as big as six 25-19 after a pair of free throws. However the Griffins were able to battle back and take a 35-34 lead into the halftime break thanks to a Hennessey triple.
The Griffins would take control in the second half stretching their lead to nineteen 64-45 with a bucket from
Larry Jones III (Woodbine, N.J. / Holy Spirit). Elleby would close out the game with a pair of field goals and free throw to take the 74-60 victory.
GM out-rebounded Marywood 30-27 with Elleby grabbing a team high seven boards.
For Marywood Shane Kellaher led all scorers with 23 points while Alex Barr chipped in 10.
The Griffins return back home to the Griffin Complex for a pair of games this week, first hosting Centenary on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
