BOX SCORESALISBURY, MD. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University baseball team opened up their 2015 season at nationally ranked Salisbury University on Saturday but fell, 13-6, to the Sea Gulls who are a year removed from appearing in the Division III College World Series.
The Griffins were able to pound out eleven hits in the defeat with
Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp, N.J. / St. Augustine) contributing a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. A pair of freshman
Jason Mulvey (Bensalem, Pa. / Bensalem) and
Shaughn Wright (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) each added a pair of hits in their collegiate debuts.
Salisbury took a 9-0 lead after six full innings played but the Griffins looked to rally, answering with four runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth.
David Blount (Croydon, Pa. / Harry S. Truman) opened the rally in the seventh with a single. Elfreth would drive him in and would later score on a
Chris Hens (Horsham, Pa. / Hatboro-Horsham) two-run single. Wright would plate Hens for the fourth run of the inning on his single to center field.
Blount would then score in the eighth by freshman
Brett Kozlowski (Warminster, Pa. / William Tennant) with Mulvey scoring on Elfreth's second double.
Also adding hits for the Griffins were
