BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A game-high 21 points from senior Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) and 16 from junior Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) helped Gwynedd Mercy hold off Centenary, 67-62, Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex.

Knight was 8-of-14 from the floor, including three three-pointers. Artis added six assists and a career-high seven rebounds.

The Griffins (15-7, 10-5 CSAC) came out firing in the first half, connecting on seven treys to help build a lead as much as 15 with 4:23 left in the period. Centenary was able to get it down to a 38-29 score at the break.

The second was a different story shooting-wise as the Cyclones (11-11, 8-7 CSAC) opened the stanza on a 21-7 run and took their first lead of the game on a back-to-back three-pointers from Kyle Smith to make it a 50-45 Centenary lead midway in the half. Knight and Artis would combine to score the next six GM points to reclaim the lead with 8:37 to go.  After Centenary pulled within one (58-57) with 1:24 left, junior Brian Hennessey (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) connected on a big three pointer on the next possession, the team's only trey of the half, to give some breathing room. GM would then be able to ice the game at the free throw line down the stretch.

Hennessey finished with seven points, six boards, two assists and two steals. After shooting 46% in the first half, the team was just 32% in the second but was able to get some key stops on defense and hit on some timely buckets.

D.J. Beausejour led Centenary with 17 points while Andy Charles chipped in 14 and Rashaan Spencer added 11.

Gwynedd Mercy will host Immaculata on Saturday for Senior Day as part of a CSAC Doubleheader with the women. The men tip it off at 4 p.m. after the women's game vs. Cedar Crest at 2 p.m.
