Griffins Fall At Baruch

NEW YORK -- Gwynedd Mercy fell 74-66 at Baruch Tuesday night in non-conference action.

A 14-4 run to close the first half put the Griffins in a 36-23 deficit at the break as Gwynedd could get no closer than seven in the second as now GMercyU has lost their second in a row.

Paul Moore led the Griffins (5-5) with a personal-best 15 points off the bench while Darnell Artis and Courtney Cubbage chipped in 10 apiece.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor totaled a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Bearcats. Doyin Issac (15 points) and Ethan Hamlett (11 points) also reached double-figures.

Gwynedd shot just 30% in the first half (9-of-30) and did not hit a three-pointer in 13 attempts but the team would battle back from an early eight-point hole to get it to 22-19 with 4:27 in the period. That's when the Bearcats grabbed control, limiting the Griffins to one field goal the rest of the stanza and re-up their lead to 13 at halftime.

In the second, GMercyU shot 14-of-37 (37%) from the floor, but could not get enough momentum to reclaim the lead.

Larry Jones III had a team-high eight rebounds as five players totaled five or more rebounds. It was the third time this season Gwynedd has outrebounded their opponent but still lost the contest.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to their home confines of The Griffin Complex on Tuesday when they host Keystone in CSAC action starting at 8 p.m as part of a doubleheader with the women.
