BETHLEHEM, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was no match for Moravian as the Greyhounds swept the Griffins, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-15), Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup.
Senior
Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) totaled six of the team's 16 kills on the night. Junior
Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) and freshman
Samantha Schearer (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) reached double-digit digs with 13 and 10 respectively for Gwynedd (7-13). The team hit 16-25-103 (-.087), marking the fourth time this season the squad failed to hit in the positive percentage.
Jordan Jacques totaled eight kills for the Greyhounds to lead all attackers. Rebecca Purcell added 11 assists and 10 digs for a double double.
Moravian (10-11) used a seven-point swing in the first set to go 18-7. A pair of kills from Tressel later on weren't enough in the 25-11 loss. After 10 hitting errors in the first, the Griffins unfortunately had the same in the second to help the Greyhounds take the set. In the third, GM seemed to put it together but Moravian came out too strong, firing off 14 of their 33 kills in the set to help clinch the win.
On the night, the Greyhounds hit 33-14-100 (.190).
Gwynedd Mercy will look to get back on track with two matches on Saturday. First they'll head to Cairn for an 11 a.m. start before going to Arcadia for a 3 p.m. first serve.
