GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy went 1-1 in two road matches on Saturday. In the morning, the Griffins picked up a big 3-0 CSAC win (25-20, 25-10, 25-13) at Cairn before heading to Arcadia where they dropped a 3-0 decision (25-17, 25-13, 25-15) to the Knights.
Against Cairn, GM had their second-best hitting match of the season, going 38-17-98 (.214). Sophomore
Jessica Behr (Philadelphia, Pa./MaST Charter) led the attack with a game-high nine kills, junior
Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) added eight, and senior
Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) chipped in seven. Senior
Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) totaled six kills, three aces, and eight digs.
Gwynedd would total 16 kills in the first set, but have nine hitting errors as the team battled to a 25-20 victory. In the second, the squad committed just two errors along with getting to an 8-2 lead and later a 17-4 edge. GM would then use a 10-0 run in the third set to pull away and ice the match.
Later in the day, the team traveled to Arcadia but did not have the same success in falling in three.
The Griffins totaled just 14 kills while adding 18 errors. Tressel led the bunch with six enders while Greer had four. GM led 13-11 in the first set, but the Knights would outscore Gwynedd, 11-1, to go on win, 25-17. In sets two and three, Arcadia built big leads early to help secure the outcome.
Gwynedd Mercy will get back at it on Wednesday when Notre Dame of Maryland visits in a CSAC matchup. A win can move the Griffins closer to clinching a playoff berth.
