Volleyball Tripped Up By Immaculata

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Visiting Immaculata won a 3-0 decision (25-13, 25-16, 25-21) over Gwynedd Mercy Tuesday night at The Griffin Complex in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

GM (7-12, 4-2 CSAC) suffers their second conference loss this season as the Mighty Macs (8-4, 4-0 CSAC) remained unbeaten.

The Griffins had trouble getting things going in the first, as nine hitting errors didn't help the team get out of a deficit midway in the set. In the second, IU used a 10-3 run to open up a 22-12 lead, only to see GM use a late push to get it to 24-16.

In the third set, which saw five ties and three lead changes, the Mighty Macs totaled 14 of their 32 kills, helping prevent Gwynedd extend the match.

Senior Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) paced the Griffins with seven kills and a career-high three blocks (one solo) while junior Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) and freshman Samantha Schearer (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) each served up a pair of aces. Junior libero Rachael Hall (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) had nine digs, which was the second time this season not one player not reach double digit digs.

Immaculata's Gabrielle Guerrera would record a match-high nine kills while hitting .471 (9-1-17) on the evening. Teammate Shelby Belk chipped in seven kills and four aces. IU would hit at a .225 clip (32-14-80) for the night and were good on 68% (35-of-51) of their sideouts.

Gwynedd Mercy hit 21-18-85 (.035) but had seven service errors and 11 reception errors.

The team is right back at it tomorrow night when they head to Moravian for a non-conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
