ROSEMONT, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy improved to 4-1 in CSAC play with a 3-1 win (25-20, 14-25, 25-13, 25-15) at Rosemont Saturday morning.
Sophomore setter
Lauren Martin (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) had 24 assists and 11 digs for seventh career double double and second this season. The Griffins would record double digits in kills in three of the four sets played.
After taking the first set, 25-20, GM totaled just two kills and 11 errors in the second, falling behind as much as 10 points (16-6). They would look to start anew in the third, but found themselves down, 6-0, out of the chute. The squad battled back to tie it at 8-8 and later took a 14-10 lead before a key run helped the Griffins go up 2-1. Senior
Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) would record five aces in the next six serves to up the lead to double figures and go and clinch set #3.
The fourth set saw Gwynedd take advantage of Rosemont's five attack and three blocking errors as well as allowing three aces. With junior
Rachael Hall (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) serving, the Griffins rolled off eight-straight points to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Freshman
Samantha Schearer (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) would ice the match at game point with notching one of the team's 16 aces on the day.
Greer would total five kills, eight aces, six digs and two blocks (one solo) while Schearer added six enders. Junior
Laura Kirk (Saegertown, Pa./Maplewood) led GM (7-11, 4-1 CSAC) with seven kills and a match-high 20 digs. Senior
Lauren Tressel (Pembroke, Ma./Pembroke) and
Jessica Behr (Philadelphia, Pa./MaST Charter) each added six kills. As a team, Gwynedd hit 36-28-130 (.062) including a 13-5-39 (.205) effort in the deciding fourth set.
Morgan Rollins led all attackers with 11 putaways and added 10 digs. Teammate Nadirah Anderson registered four kills, 17 digs, and eight blocks (two solo).
Gwynedd Mercy returns home on Tuesday when they welcome Immaculata here to the Griffin Complex in a 7 p.m. start.
