true Gwynedd Mercy 11, Misericordia 11
BOX SCOREDALLAS, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Misericordia played to a wild 11-11 tie on Tuesday in non-conference action.
The game was called after the completion of the 10th inning due to darkness. The teams combined for 31 hits and saw the Griffins rally from a 9-3 deficit to take a one-run lead in the eighth only to see the Cougars score a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, tying the contest.
Senior
John Burns (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) went 3-for-6 with three runs and a career-high four RBIs. He was a single shy of the cycle. Freshman
Frank Saviski (Aston, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and sophomore
David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) also went deep. Saviski had three hits as he was a triple away from the cycle.
The Griffins (14-8-1) crossed two runs in the top of the first as Blount led off the game with an inside-the-park home run. Later in the frame, Burns drove in
Eric Heaney (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) for a 2-0 lead.
Misericordia would plate five in the third to turn a 3-1 hole into a 6-3 lead and in the next inning, score three more, all unearned, to up their edge to 9-3.
GM chipped at the deficit in the fifth, as Burns hit a two-run homer and Saviski added a solo shot for three runs. Burns would strike again in the sixth with an RBI triple and later score on a sac fly and suddenly it was a one-run contest.
A key Griffin error led to a run in the seventh for Misericordia, allowing the leadoff batter to score. Gwynedd would take a lead in the eighth, scoring three runs highlighted by RBI hits from Saviski and junior
Greg Brooks (Voorhees, N.J./St. Joseph's PA) all coming with two outs.
In the ninth, the Griffins gave up an RBI single with two on and two out to knot the game back up a 11-11. Gwynedd went in order in the 10th, and the Cougars were able to get a two-out walk, but did not score.
Kyle Seawards was 4-for-6 with four runs driven in and a pair of doubles for Misericordia (12-8-1).
Gwynedd Mercy will open a conference weekend series with Keystone on Friday with a nine-inning affair here in Gwynedd Valley at 3 p.m. The teams will head to LaPlume the following day for two.
