BOX SCORE

ASTON, PA. -- A pitching gem from junior Jamey Minnemeyer (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) helped Gwynedd Mercy take down Neumann on Thursday, 4-1, to sweep the regular-season series between the two teams.

Minnemeyer went eight strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts to go to 3-0 on the year. The Griffins totaled just five hits as well, but scored runs in key spots as the team improves to 11-7 and 6-0 in conference play.

Sophomore David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) collected two hits, scored twice and stole three bases. Junior Eric Heaney (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) also had two hits, while scoring a run a swiping a bag.

Blount would lead off the game with a double to right. He would later score from third as a throwing error from the firstbaseman on a fielder's choice gave GM a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, an RBI groundout from senior John Burns (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) crossed home another run.

Gwynedd would plate two more in the fifth as it was Heaney leading off the inning with a double to right. He would score from third on a perfect suicide squeeze laid down from junior Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp, N.J./St. Augustine). Blount would later score his second run on a sac fly from sophomore Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern).

Minnemeyer got out of jams in the fifth, getting a fly out with two on, and in the sixth, as his defense turned a 6-4-3 double play. Neumann (5-11, 2-4 CSAC) would finally get to him in the seventh on a Kyle Leone RBI single to make it 4-1.

GM looked to plate some more offense in the eighth, getting the sacks full with one out, but the Knights were able escape any further damage with an inning-ending double play.

Sophomore Andrew Hill (Christiana, Pa./Octorara) got a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his second save of the season.

It is the first series sweep over the Knights since 2009 and three-game sweep since 2007. In 2009, the two teams only met twice in the regular season as their nine-inning game was postponed and never rescheduled.

The Griffins resume action on Sunday when they travel to nationally-ranked Salisbury in a 12 p.m. start.
