GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A walk-off RBI single in game two helped Gwynedd Mercy to a CSAC Doubleheader sweep of Marywood on Sunday. The Griffins won 3-2 in eight innings in game two while posting a 4-1 decision in game one.

Trailing 1-0, Gwynedd (17-12-1, 11-3, CSAC) would force extra innings with a run in the seventh off an RBI single from David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman). The Pacers took advantage of an error in the eighth to get a runner on and later score on an RBI double to take a 2-1 lead.

Freshman Frank Saviski (Aston, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) knotted things up with his RBI double in the bottom half. After an infield hit to move Saviski up to third, pinch hitter Tom Bordi (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) sent a tapper which went under reliever Brian Noonan's glove to plate Saviski for the winning run.

The game started as a pitchers' duel as junior Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp., N.J./St. Augustine) and Marywood's Billy Kelly each allowed just one run apiece over six innings. Elfreth allowed just one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Kelly allowed just one run on two hits over six innings. GM's first hit didn't come until the fourth. Kelly worked out of a bases-loaded spot in the fifth.

In the sixth, Erik Pulkkinen led off with a single, moved up on a sacrifice, took third on a single, and later score on a wild pitch to give the Pacers (12-12, 4-8 CSAC) a 1-0 lead. Marywood looked to add to the lead in the seventh, getting the bases loaded with one out. Elfreth and the Griffins escaped any harm getting an out on a botched suicide squeeze play and an inning-ending groundout.

In the seventh, Blount slapped a single to right to score pinch runner Trevor Sotell (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) from third.

Junior Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) relieved Elfreth in the eighth and picked up the win, his sixth on the year.

In game one, sophomore Andrew Hill (Christiana, Pa./Octorara) gave up one run on five hits in his first career start in guiding GM to a 4-1 win. Hill struck out five and walked just one as he didn't allow a hit until the fifth.

After scoring a run on an error in the second, Saviski delivered with the bases full and two outs in the third, hitting a bloop single over the shortstop to score two runs for a 3-0 lead.

GM tacked on another run in the fourth, as Elfreth was able to execute the suicide squeeze to score Christopher Hens (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham). The Pacers would plate their lone run in the seventh on an RBI double from Jason Portohundo.

Hens and Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) each had two hits apiece and a run scored.

The Griffins will travel to Scranton tomorrow to close out the three-game series with the Pacers. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
