BOX SCOREGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy clinched itself a playoff berth with a 20-11 win over Cedar Crest in the regular-season finale Tuesday evening on Senior Night.
The Griffins (7-9, 4-4 CSAC) finish as the #5 seed in the CSAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament and will play a first-round game at #4 Immaculata on Saturday in a time TBA.
Six different players scored a goal as Gwynedd was able to snap a three-game losing streak. Junior
Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) tied a career-high with nine points on seven goals and two assists. Senior
Amy Powell (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) also tied a career-high, scoring six goals.
The game was interrupted for 55 minutes late in the first half on a lighting delay. Action resumed shortly before 9 p.m. Gwynedd Mercy led 14-8 at the abbreviated halftime.
Senior
Elizabeth Rand (Falmouth, Me./Catherine McAuley), and freshmen
Renee Lachner (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and
Christi Gibbs (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) all registered two goals as GM totaled a season-high 49 shots.
Cedar Crest goalie Nicole Rivera tried to keep her team in it, as she made 16 saves. Teammate Emily Rodenberger would lead the offense with five goals, while Amy Frey added two.
Prior to the game, the team honored its five seniors in a special ceremony along with their respective familes: Powell, Rand,
Theanna Longo (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson),
Gina Febbo (Sewell, N.J./Paul VI) and
Erin Janzekovich (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township).
Immaculata and Gwynedd met on April 12th in the regular season with the Mighty Macs posting a 21-11 win.
