BOX SCOREGLASSBORO, N.J. -- The Griffins tied a season-high with five errors and Rowan totaled 23 hits as the Profs gave Gwynedd Mercy a 17-4 non-conference defeat Monday afternoon.
Sophomore
Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) had a pair of doubles with an RBI and a run scored. Senior
Ryan Haley (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) added a two-run double but Rowan used an eight-run sixth, courtesy of nine hits and three GM errors to open up a sizable lead.
Ryan Pavlik had three hits while Ryan Williams added three RBI's. The 23 hits given up were tied for the second most in Griffin history.
After Marchitto's RBI double in the first, the Profs (24-7) plated four runs in the third and four more in the fifth. Stephen Petriello, Nick Krieger, and Williams all had two-run singles as part of that sixth inning.
Christopher Hens (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) would add an RBI double in the seventh. He too would finish with two hits.
Matt Nelson picked up the win, going six innings, striking out four, with one run on six hits. Sophomore
Rich Young (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in three innings. He walked two and struck out one.
The Griffins (15-12-1) return to action tomorrow against another NJAC opponent in New Jersey City in Gwynedd Valley. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. weather permitting.
