BOX SCORE Game 1 | BOX SCORE Game 2LAPLUME,PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Keystone battled to a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon with the Griffins taking game one, 2-1, in nine innings and the Giants winning the second, 8-3.
In game one, GM (13-9-1, 7-1 CSAC) was limited to three hits, but took advantage of four Keystone errors, including two in the top of the seventh to tie the game and in extra innings to plate the eventual game-winning run.
Starter
Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) went seven innings, allowing just one run, an RBI single in the second, on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Sophomore
Andrew Hill (Christiana, Pa./Octorara) entered in the eighth, tossed two innings of scoreless baseball , and would pick up the win in relief.

Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) led off the seventh with a walk. After getting to second on a wild throw on a pickoff, would score on another Giant error, this time a hit ball to center to tie the contest at 1-1. He would score again in the ninth as he reached on an error, sacrificed up to second, and then advanced to third on a groundout. Freshman
Frank Saviski (Aston, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) came through with a two-out single to plate Marchitto.
Keystone's Rob Blanc was just as impressive on the mound, giving up one unearned run on two hits in six innings with seven strikeouts.
In game two, the Giants answered a solo home run from senior
John Burns (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) in the second with two runs in the bottom half and three in the next frame for a 5-1 edge. GM looked to threaten in the fourth, getting the sacks full with two outs, but a fielder's choice ended the threat.
Keystone would tack on two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to add some insurance.
Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp., N.J./St. Augustine) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in three innings. Michael Meszoros got the win, hurling five innings of two-hit ball. Domenick Montanaro had two hits and two RBI's for Keystone (11-11, 7-2 CSAC).
The teams will meet tomorrow in Gwynedd Valley for a single nine-inning game to close out the weekend series at 1 p.m.
