BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Fueled by career-high seven points from senior Amy Powell (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh), Gwynedd Mercy picked up a 16-10 CSAC win over Notre Dame of Maryland in the Griffins' conference opener.

Powell totaled six goals and an assist while junior Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) added four as GM spoiled a second-half push from the Gators.

Gwynedd (3-4, 1-0 CSAC) looked to run away with things in the first half, outshooting Notre Dame, 18-4, and leading 7-1 at halftime, but the Gators would fight back in it to get within three goals midway in the second.

Sawyer Butto netted five goals for the Gators (0-4, 0-2 CSAC) while teammate Brittany Peddicord added four. Butto would tally back-to-back goals under a minute apart, making it a 10-7 contest. Powell would score three of the next four Gwynedd goals, the last coming with 10:54 in the game to give GM a 14-8 edge.

Goalie Megan Rose (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) made four saves while Notre Dame's De'Ja Martin recorded eight.

Sarah Lombardi (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) scored twice for GM. Elizabeth Rand (Falmouth, Ma./Catherine McAuley) and Haley Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) also recorded goals.

The Griffins will continue conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Cabrini in a 6:30 p.m. start.
