BOX SCORE

STEVENSON, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy won their third game in a row, defeating Stevenson, 12-2, Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) doubled, homered, and drove in three runs. Junior Eric Heaney (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added two doubles, going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs while freshman Frank Saviski (Aston, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) had three hits and scored three times to pace the offense.

On the mound, junior Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) picked up his third win of the season, going five innings, scattering two runs on five with five strikeouts and a walk.

Leading 5-2 after five, the Griffins broke it open with a four-run sixth. Lead-off hits from Saviski and Heaney later turned into a two-run double off the bat of junior Greg Brooks (Voorhees, N.J./St. Joseph's). Brooks would later score on a bases loaded walk and Marchitto added an RBI on a fielder's choice for the fourth run.

Junior Jamey Minnemyer (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) would enter in the bottom of the sixth and go the rest of the way, striking out six while allowing only three hits to earn the save.

Kevin Wu hit a solo home run in the first for the Mustangs (4-1).

Eight of the 13 Griffin hits went for extra bases.

Gwynedd will get back in action on Monday when they host Penn State-Berks at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's originally scheduled CSAC DH at Immaculata has been postponed with no make up date set. Check back to the GM Athletic Website for updates.
