Late Surge Helps Griffins Trump King's

(Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown) who led the team with a game-high and career-high six goals.  Junior Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa. / Ridley) added five tallies.

The Griffins (2-2) found themselves in an early hole trailing, 4-1. Yori would counter, scoring three consecutive goals to tie the contest 4-4 with 13:28 remaining in the first half. The Monarchs would find the back of the net with just nine seconds remaining in the first half to take a 9-8 lead heading into the break on a Catherine McMahon goal.

Perrymond would net back-to-back goals to start the second half to put GM on top 10-9. King's would respond when Jessica Ormrod would give them their last lead 13-12 with 11:26 remaining in the game. Junior Elizabeth Rand (Portland, Me. / Catherine McAuley) would tie the contest just fourteen seconds later and sophomore Brianna Greer (Philadelphia, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) would score the eventual game-winner, putting GM on top 14-13 with just over ten minutes remaining. Perrymond, Yori and Rand would keep King's at bay with their goals in the closing moments for the Griffins to hold on to their second win in a row.

Megan Rose (Perkasie, Pa. / Pennridge) recorded five saves for Gwynedd, including four big ones in the final 12 minutes of a close contest.  Her counterpart, Courtney Stefanik made 14 stops for the Monarchs (0-2).

For Gwynedd, Rand scored three times, Greer chipped in two goals and freshman Renee Lachner (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) added a tally as well.

Amanda Harney led King's with six goals and five assists for a game-high 11 points. Ormrod scored five and McMahon added three.

The Griffins return back to action Saturday as they travel to Willamsport, Pa. to take on Lycoming.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
