BOX SCORE

ASTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell, 72-55, on the road Saturday at Neumann in Colonial States Athletic Conference Action, ending the Griffin win streak at four games.

Freshman Cedric Elleby (Monroeville, N.J. / Delsea) led the Griffins with a team-high 13 points, while adding five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.

The Griffins were held to 55 points and just 30% shooting, both season lows but GM (17-6, 13-3 CSAC) hung tough until a late scoring run by Neumann helped decide the outcome.

Elleby's jumper with 12:41 remaining in the half gave the Griffins a brief lead (13-12). The Knights, however, would rally to go up as much as seven (24-17) and would later take a 34-28 lead heading into the break.

Neumann (16-7, 11-5 CSAC) would build on their lead to put GM in a 14-point hole early in the second. A Brian Hennessey (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) three pointer would cap a 12-2 run to get the Griffins within 47-44 with just over 11 minutes to go. Neumann countered to restore a nine-point edge on a trey from Rich Whitten.

The Griffins gave it one last push, getting within five with 6:05 remaining, but would only record one field goal over the next 5:56 as Neumann would close out the game on a 16-4 run to ice the contest.

Reggie Coleman led Neumann with a game high 27 points.  Whitten and Mark Blount each added 12 respectively. Blount snared a game-high 22 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Hennessey, along with sophomore Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa. / LaSalle College H.S.) scored eight points apiece. Artis tied a career-mark with seven assists.
GM was held to 20-of-66 (30.3%) from the floor but kept the Knights to a 24-of-66 (36.4%) clip.

The Griffins will have a quick turnaround traveling to Centenary on Monday at 7 p.m. in a rescheduled game from February 3rd. Gwynedd still controls its own fate for one of the two first-round playoff byes; getting a win on Monday or a Neumann loss over the last two games the Griffins will secure the #2 seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament.
