BOX SCORE

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy hit the road Wednesday evening up to Centenary and came away with a 65-55 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory Wednesday evening.

Senior Nicole Dougherty (Huntingdon Valley, Pa. / Lower Moreland) bested all scorers with a game-high 20 points as the Griffins (5-8, 2-2 CSAC) would force 30 turnovers, leading to 31 points.

Gwynedd was down early, trailing the Cyclones, 11-5, in the early moments of the contest after a 4:22 spurt of being held scoreless. GM was able to bounce back, and used a 16-2 run capped off by a Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa. / Pennridge) three pointer for an eight-point edge (21-13), their largest lead of the half. Dougherty would connect again on layup to beat the halftime horn from an assist by Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa. / Ridley) to give GM a 26-20 lead at the halftime.

In the second, Yori connected from downtown to give the Griffins their biggest lead of the half at 46-32 with just over 11 minutes to go.  Centenary would respond with a 9-0 run, cutting the deficit to five (46-41).  Dougherty would stop the bleeding with a three-point play to put GM back up by eight.

The Cyclones would battle back again, cutting the Griffin lead to just one (50-49) with 5:55 to play. Two big plays from Dominic on the defensive end helped kickstart the go-ahead points. She would force a jump ball that favored the Griffins and then produced a steal which led to a pair of free throws from Smith to stretch the lead up to six (57-51). Dominic would bury her second three of the game to put GM up for good 60-51 with 1:56 remaining. The Griffins would connect on their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

For the game, the Griffins made 21-of-29 free throws on the evening, while shooting 39.2% from the floor.

Dominic also finished double figures, netting 10 points. Junior Natasha Matthews (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown) led the Griffins on the boards, grabbing 10 of her own.

Mallory George had 19 for the Cyclones (4-7, 2-1 CSAC).

The Griffins will stay on the road as they travel to Cedar Crest on Saturday in a CSAC matchup.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
