Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) went for a career-high 27 points to help lead Gwynedd Mercy to its sixth-straight win in an 82-62 CSAC win over Baptist Bible at the Griffin Complex.
Artis was 7-for-15 from the floor while draining a personal-best six three-pointers. Junior
Seth Heinicke (Warminster, Pa./Calvary) added 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists as the Griffins were able to pull away in the second half.
The Griffins (13-4, 9-1 CSAC) were shooting just under 40% in the first half and were able to build a 12-point halftime lead (37-25).
Artis would cap a game-changing 13-2 run midway in the second with a big three-pointer after the Defenders cut the lead to 48-41. A trey from sophomore
Julian Hyden (Trevose, Pa./Bensalem) with 3:27 left upped the lead to 22.
Hyden finished with eight points and junior
Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) had a team-high seven rebounds, and added six points, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Abe Valentine led Baptist Bible (6-10, 3-6 CSAC) with 11 points while Dan Decker chipped in 10.
As a team, GM would finish 24-of-57 (42.1%) for the game and hold a 40-31 rebound edge.
Gwynedd Mercy welcomes nationally-ranked Cabrini on Wednesday here at the Griffin Complex in an 8 p.m. tipoff as part of a CSAC Doubleheader with the women.
