What: 2013 CSAC Softball Tournament Preliminary Round

The Gwynedd-Mercy College Softball Team has clinched the #4 playoff seed and will host a first-round CSAC Preliminary Round game on Wednesday, May 1st against Marywood, the fifth seed, at 4 p.m. Wednesday's winner will advance to the double elimination tournament this weekend at top-seeded Neumann.

Earlier in the season the Griffins swept a doubleheader at Marywood, posting a 2-0 win in game one and a 3-2 squeaker in game two back on April 21st.

Freshman Ashley Lamont (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was earlier this week voted the 2013 CSAC Rookie of the Year. The pitcher has a 13-5 overall record and a 2.70 ERA with 15 complete games including four shutouts.  Over the 114 innings pitched, the freshman righty struck out 86 while only walking 18 and held her opponents to a .273 batting average.  Lamont also has had a great year at the plate, batting .457 with 43 hits and 32 RBIs. Fellow freshman Kelsey McDonough (Philadelphia, Pa. / Little Flower) and junior Stephanie Farrar (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn) were also selected to the All-CSAC First Team. McDonough is batting .385 with two home runs and 23 RBIs. Farrar hits at a .417
clip, connecting on a team -high five homeruns.

The Pacers are led by ALL-CSAC Second Team selections sophomore third baseman Mariah Runco and senior outfielder Meghin Palmer. Runco batted .352 collecting 31 hits and driving in 21 RBIs. Palmer hit .434 with 49 hits on the season.

Ron Smull in his sixth season as head coach for Gwynedd-Mercy, has guided the Griffins back to the playoffs for the third time under his tenure. He led the Griffins to back-to-back playoff berths in 2008 and 2009.

Head Coach Bob Fitsimmons has guided the Pacers to the CSAC playoffs in each of the last five seasons.

The Griffins and Pacers met in the preliminary round in 2009 with Gwynedd-Mercy winning 1-0 up in Scranton.
