Neumann 4, Gwynedd-Mercy 1
BOX SCORE
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Neumann's Matt Spillman struck out eight Griffins in a complete game win as the Griffins fell to the Knights, 4-1, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Game on Friday.
Gwynedd was limited to four hits. Two of those were from sophomore
Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp., N.J./St. Augustine).
The Knights scored twice in the first inning, with both runs coming with two outs. Tyler Drinkard plated a run on an RBI single and would eventually score on a double steal from third.
GM answered with a run in the bottom half on an error. With runners on first and second,
John Burns (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) hit a potential double play ball to second, but the flip from Bill Pace went over shortstop Will Flores's head at second base. Elfreth, who earlier reached on a single, would score from second on the error.
Gwynedd tried to threaten in the third and later in the seventh getting two on, but could not get them home.
Flores added a run with a bloop RBI single to shallow center in the seventh while Pace added a run on a sac fly in the eighth.
Drinkard was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Spillman walked just one in nine innings.
GM starter
Jamey Minnemeyer (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) went seven innings, striking out five, but allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk.
The two teams will meet tomorrow in Aston in a doubleheader starting at noon.
