GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy fell in a CSAC Doubleheader to #15 Keystone on Sunday, dropping a close game one, 4-3, and losing the second, 12-1.

The Griffins (19-13, 11-4 CSAC) held a 3-1 lead in game one, only to see the Giants plate two runs in the fourth to take a lead. GM would load the bases in the seventh with one out but were unable to get the tying run home.

Sophomore Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp., N.J./St. Augustine) and freshman Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) each had two hits and an RBI. Starter Andrew Schaefer (Penndel, Pa./Conwell-Egan) went five innings, yielding three earned runs on seven hits.

After Gabriel Ramirez RBI sac fly in the first, Gwynedd looked to answer in the bottom half, loading the bases with one out, but a double play ended the inning. The Griffins would break through in the second, touching up KC starter Mike Pembleton for three runs on four hits. Freshman David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) led off the frame with bunt single in front of the mound. Pembleton's throw was high and wide, allowing Blount to get to second. He would score on an RBI single from senior Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X). Martin would come around on Marchitto's double to right. Elfreth got in on the scoring with his single to right to plate Marchitto.

The Giants (27-7, 15-1 CSAC) cut it to 3-2 after scoring a run on an error on a sacrifice bunt. Keystone then scored two runs with two outs on four-straight singles. Lybel Guerrero's run-scoring hit put KC on top , 4-3.

James Lindsay (Metuchen, N.J./Saint Joseph) met new pitcher Adam Krebs in the seventh cueing a shot down the left field line for a lead-off single. After a sacrifice to second, Lindsay would move to third on a passed ball. Blount and Martin would work full count walks to load the bases with one out. Krebs was able to end it with back-to-back strikeouts for the save.

Elfreth would take the hill in game two, but ran into trouble early on as Keystone scored four in the second and three in the third to put GM in a deficit to which they could not recover.

Gaston Rojas went 4-for-5 with four runs, and three RBIs including a two-run home run in the sixth.

Gwynedd scored their lone run in the fifth on an RBI single from Ryan Downs (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South).

The Griffins look to get back on track when they play at Eastern in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
