Baseball Bounces Back With a Win At Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA. -- Senior Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) had three hits and three stolen bases while sophomore Matt Rakus (Washington Twp., N.J./St. Augustine) struck out six over eight innings as Gwynedd-Mercy improved to 9-1 in conference play with a 10-3 win at Immaculata on Thursday.

The Griffins (16-10) busted out in the sixth, scoring four runs to turn a 3-2 lead into a sizable advantage. Freshman David Blount (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) had a two-run single while Martin knocked in a run and would later score on an error.

GM would tack on some insurance runs later as freshman James Lindsay (Metuchen, N.J./St. Joseph) added an RBI groundout in the seventh and Dante Cassano (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) drove in two with his two-out single in the eighth.

Rakus gave up a run in each the third and fifth before settling in a allowing just one baserunner over the next three innings.

As a team, Gwynedd stole a total of 10 bases which is third most in school history. Lindsay and Blount had two swipes apiece.

On Saturday the teams meet in a CSAC Doubleheader in Gwynedd Valley in a noon start.
