#7 Kean 4, Gwynedd-Mercy 3

BOX SCORE

UNION, N.J. -- Kean scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to go on and defeat Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-3, in non-conference action on Wednesday.

The Griffins (4-4) would build an early 2-0 lead with a run in the first and the third on the strength of RBI singles from junior Dante Cassano (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East). Junior John Burns (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) would make it 3-0 with a run-scoring base hit.

Starter Andrew Schaefer (Penndel, Pa./Conwell Egan) got off to a good start, allowing just three hits through five innings. Kean would get one back in the sixth, but the junior was able to get out of a bases loaded jam with a called third strike to end the frame.

The seventh-ranked Cougars would then score the go-ahead runs in the eighth, all with two outs. After a run scored on an error, Kean's Anthony Fischetti delivered a two-run single off of sophomore Jamey Minnemeyer (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), who entered during the inning, for the 4-3 lead. GM would be sent down in order in the ninth to end it.

Cassano finished 2-for-3 with a walk while sophomore Greg Brooks (Voorhees, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep Pa.) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored.

Schaefer struck out five over seven plus while scattering two runs on seven hits. Minnemeyer look the loss.

Gwynedd-Mercy's scheduled game tomorrow at Swarthmore has been rescheduled for Monday, April 15th due to the forecasted inclement weather. The Griffins will look to get back at it on Friday with a game at Haverford at 3 p.m.
