BOX SCORE
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy was held to just one goal in the second half in falling to Widener, 18-6, in non-conference action on Saturday.
Freshman
Danae Perrymond (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) led the Griffins (2-3) with four goals while junior
Amy Powell (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) added a score and two assists.
Leading 7-5 late in the first half, the Pride netted 11 unanswered goals with Julia Costello netting three of her game-high five goals in that stretch.
Sophomore goalie
Marina Hubbard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) tied a personal-best with 16 saves, 11 of which came in the first half.
Both teams swapped goals early in the contest. After Perrymond's third tally at the 13:33 mark of the first to tie it at 4-4, Widener jumped ahead with a three-goal spurt and use another one in the stanza's last 1:57 to lead 10-5 at halftime.
Costello, who also had a game-high three assists, would have a hand in four of the six goals in the second stanza's first 10 minutes and seemingly put the game out of reach.
Sophomore
Dani Horn (Colmar, Pa./North Penn) also tallied a score and an assist for the Griffins.
Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Tuesday evening when they host Albright in a 7 p.m. start under the lights.
