BOX SCORE

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -- With a 13-2 win, Gwynedd-Mercy picked up its first CSAC victory in its conference opener over Centenary at T.D. Bank Ballpark on Friday.

Junior Dante Cassano (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) helped to spark the offense going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four driven in. He would also add a three-run homerun. Junior John Burns (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) knocked in three runs with a pair of RBI doubles.

Sophomore Matt Rakus (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) struck out six in six innings of work, allowing just two runs on three hits to pick up the win.

Burns and senior Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) drove in runs in the first to put GM (6-4, 1-0 CSAC) on the board. Cassano would follow in the third with his third homer of the season to put the Griffins up 5-0.

After the Cyclones plated two runs in the fourth, Cassano would score off of a Mike Marchitto (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) triple in the fifth. Marchitto would then come home on a sac fly off the bat of Rick Elfreth (Washington Twp., N.J./St. Augustine) to stretch the lead back to five.

The Griffins broke it open in the sixth as Elfreth's two-run single was part of a six-run frame.

Martin finished with four hits, three runs scored, and a stolen base.

Due to forecasted inclement weather, the teams will meet in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 17th at 1 p.m.
