RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy had their three-game win streak snapped in an 80-68 defeat at Cabrini on Wednesday evening.
Four Griffins finished in double figures. Senior
Brendan Stanton (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and freshmen
Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) and
Shawn Wilson (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) all netted 13 points each. Senior
Frank Champion (Northfield, N.J./Mainland) added 11.
All five starters for Cabrini (18-5, 14-2 CSAC) went for double digits, led by A.J. Williams with a game-high 17 points. Aaron Walton-Moss chipped in 15 points, eight boards, and eight assists.
In the first half, both teams stayed in arm's reach of one another, as both would shoot 37% from the floor. GM couldn't grab a lead but stayed within seven points. Artis would score a bucket with under 20 seconds in the half to make it a 34-30 Cavalier lead at the break.
Cabrini, who shot 69% in the final 20 minutes, started the second on a 14-4 run capped off by a three-pointer from Fran Rafferty and a layup from Jeremy Knowles. Gwynedd could only pull within 10, the last coming with 4:09 to play, but the Griffins could not get any closer.
Gwynedd (12-10, 11-4 CSAC) lost the battle on the glass, 43-29.
Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) led Gwynedd with six.
The Griffins look to rebound on Saturday when they host Marywood at 4 p.m. as part of a CSAC Doubleheader with the women. The ladies tip it off at 2 p.m. against Notre Dame of Maryland.
