Hanover 8, Gwynedd-Mercy 7
BOX SCORE
AUBURNDALE, FL. -- After a four hour rain delay and change of venue, Gwynedd-Mercy and Hanover finally were able to play ball on Tuesday evening, but the Griffins would fall, 8-7, to the Panthers to give GM its first loss of the season.
The Griffins would build a 5-1 lead on the strength of a two-run home run from
Dante Cassano (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) in the fourth and a two-run double off the bat of
John Burns (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) in the fifth.
Starter
Andrew Schaefer (Penndel, Pa./Conwell-Egan) cruised through five innings, allowing just one run on four hits, but in the sixth, Hanover plated six runs on six hits and two errors to take a 7-5 lead.
Gwynedd was able to tie it in the bottom of the frame, using an RBI double from
Carlo Randazzo (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine) and later an unearned run off an error.
The Panthers plated the eventual go-ahead run in the eighth on a bases-loaded walk.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Griffins had their first two batters reach base, but Hanover's Chip Hockenbury who entered to start the inning, induced a fly out, strikeout and pop up to earn the save.
Burns was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI's while Cassano and Randazzo also added two hits apiece.
Gwynedd-Mercy (3-1) will get back at it down in Florida tomorrow with a nine-inning game with Augustana starting at 11 a.m.
