RADNOR, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy came up short in their attempt to defend their conference title as the Griffins lost in the 2013 CSAC Women's Basketball Championship, 49-38, at Cabrini on Saturday evening.

Gwynedd (18-9) was looking to win its seventh conference championship.

Sophomore Shea Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led GM with 13 points and 18 rebounds, one shy of a career high. She was the only Griffin in double figures as the scoring for each team was at a premium.

Tournament MVP Annie Rivituso had 11 points and nine boards for the Cavaliers (24-3). Teammate Brittany Sandone scored 14.

The game's first field goal wasn't scored until four minutes into the period on a three-pointer from junior Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge). The shooting woes would continue as it would be the only trey for the Griffins the rest of the night.

Both teams shot under 25% for the stanza, but Cabrini was able to score five-straight points to close the half, including a bucket at the buzzer from Megan Decker to give the Cavs a 23-14 lead at the break.

Sandone would open the second with a three-pointer for a double-digit lead, a lead they would keep throughout the half. GM would get as close as 11 late in the game, but to no avail.

Gwynedd also had trouble at the free-throw line, going 3-for-11 in the first half and 6-of-13 in the second to combine for 37.5% performance.  GM was also 0-for-9 from downtown.

The Griffins would win the battle of the boards, 44-42. Sophomore Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) grabbed a personal-best seven.
