Marywood 80, Gwynedd Mercy 78

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A late three-pointer was the difference as Marywood escaped the Griffin Complex with an 80-78 win over the Griffins Wednesday night.
Gwynedd, which led by as many as 18 early in the second half, have lost their fifth in a row and drop to 1-5 and 0-2 in conference play.
Junior
Natasha Matthews (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) had a game-high 21 points while
Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) flirted with a triple-double, going for 10 points, a career-high seven assists and seven rebounds and added five steals.
Danielle Terranella came off the bench to score 20 points and add 10 rebounds, both game-highs, for the Pacers (5-0, 2-0 CSAC). Brittany Mang added 16 while Ashley Murray had 12.
Things looked good at the start as back-to-back three-pointers from
Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and
Lauren Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) helped set an early lead. Marywood would rally with a 14-2 run capped by two Terranella free throws for a 21-15 lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the half. Gwynedd would answer with a run of their own, going on a 22-4 spurt, with a three-pointer from
Chandler DiFebbo (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) to give GM a 37-25 edge. The teams would enter the half at with a 41-32 Gwynedd lead.
The Griffins looked to pull away for good, starting the second on a 14-5 run. Yori's steal and layup made it 55-37 with 15:25 remaining.
Marywood, who hit five of their seven three-pointers in the second, got key buckets to slowly climb back into it. Terranella's three-point play shrunk the lead to single-digits and later, Ashley Murray would connect on two consecutive possessions to pull the Pacers within three (59-56) with 9:23 on the clock.
Terranella would again score and head to the line for a three-point play to get Marywood within one (77-76). After a Gwynedd miss, Morgann Haduck drained the go-ahead trey with 39 ticks to give the Pacers its first lead since early in the game.
Gwynedd got a break when Haduck hit one of two from the line with three seconds left to keep it a two-point game (80-78). The Griffins drew up an inbound play where Smith got a great look at a three-pointer, but her shot rimmed around and out to give Marywood the win.
Freshman
Nicole Dombrowski (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) pulled down nine rebounds as the Griffins won the battle of the boards, 50-43. Senior
Nicole Dougherty (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) grabbed six boards, while finishing with 16 points and six assists.
Both teams shot 38% from the floor, but it was Marywood who went 17-for-23 (73%) at the charity stripe while the Griffins were just 14-of-22 (63%).
Gwynedd Mercy will look to end their winless skid when they head up to Baptist Bible on Saturday for a CSAC tilt starting at 1 p.m.
