BOX SCORE

RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell to the Cavaliers of Cabrini, 63-55, to kick off Colonial States Athletic Conference play in a rematch of last year's championship game.

Nicole Dougherty (Huntingdon Valley, Pa. / Lower Moreland) led the Griffins (1-4, 0-1 CSAC) in the scoring column as the senior netted 11 points. Freshman Charlotte Kucowski (Philadelphia, Pa. / St. Hubert's) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while contributing six points.

Cabrini jumped out to an early 11-4 lead to start the first stanza but the Griffins would respond with a 9-1 run capped by a Nicole Dombrowski (Philadelphia, Pa. / Nazareth Academy) layup to take a 13-12 lead to force a Cavalier timeout. Cabrini would retake the lead until freshman Kalene Coffey (Philadelphia, Pa. / Archbishop Ryan) scored five straight points connecting on two free throws and burying a corner three pointer to put GM on top, 27-24.  The Cavaliers would respond again, closing the half with five consecutive points to take a 32-29 halftime lead.

The Cavaliers would stretch a double-digit lead throughout the second half, taking their largest lead at 13 (60-47). The Griffins, who shot over 40% in the first half but just 21% (7-for-33) in the second, were able to cut the deficit to single digits in the closing moments of the game with a Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa. / Pennridge) three-pointer and a pair of free throws from Lauren Smith (Philadelphia, Pa. / Archbishop Ryan), but could pull no closer.

Amber Keys led Cabrini (5-1, 1-0 CSAC), who recorded a double-double scoring 22 points adding 12 boards. Teammate Megan Decker chipped in 10 points.

The Griffins will return back to action Wednesday night hosting Marywood University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
