RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy hit the road on Monday night to the Main Line to take on nationally ranked Cabrini College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action, but the Griffins suffered a 95-84 defeat.
Junior
Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) led the Griffins (3-3, 1-1 CSAC) with a team high 21 points. Freshman
Arron Goodman (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) recorded a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an early 10-point lead and would later hold a 24-3 edge in the first eight minutes of the half but the Griffins slowly climb back, cutting the deficit to 10 on a Goodman three pointer with under a minute to play in the half. Cabrini would take a 46-34 lead heading into the halftime break.
Cabrini extended the lead throughout the second stanza with an A.J. Picard three pointer to put Cabrini up 63-40. The Griffins would show grit and tried to rally again, cutting the Cavalier lead to nine 83-74 at the 3:53 mark, but Matt Forrest would hit a big three-pointer to restore a double-figure lead the rest of the way for Cabrini
Sophomore
Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa. / LaSalle College H.S.) added 15 and junior
Seth Heinicke (Warminster, Pa. / Calvary) chipped in 12.
Aaron Walton-Moss led all scorers with 29 points and added 18 points and seven assists, all game highs, to lead the Cavaliers (6-0 1-1 CSAC) Fran Rafferty (22) and Picard (20) helped pace the Cavaliers high scoring offense. Picard also recorded his 1,000th point in the second half.
The Griffins will look to bounce back as they host Neumann on Wednesday night in CSAC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women.
