Gwynedd Mercy 87, John Jay 77

NEW YORK -- Freshman
Arron Goodman (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South) scored 22 of his career-high 33 points in the second half to help lift Gwynedd Mercy to an 87-77 win at John Jay Sunday afternoon.
After shooting 4-for-11 in the first half, he went 7-of-8 including 2-for-2 from downtown and a 7-for-8 effort at the free-throw line. As a team, the Griffins (6-3) shot over 65% in the second to help erase a 10-point halftime deficit to win their third game in a row.
Sophomores
Darnell Artis (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) and
Brian Hennessey (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) each added 11 points.
Korede Griffith netted 19 points for the Bloodhounds (2-5), who also had three other players in double figures.
John Jay would use a 21-9 run to lead by as much as 12 with just over a minute in the first stanza, to lead 40-30 at the break.
The Griffins would claw their way back in it in the second, and would take a lead with 10:30 to play on a three-point play from sophomore
Julian Hyden (Trevose, Pa./Bensalem). Hennessey would help give GM the lead for good, draining one of his three three-pointers on the day for a 61-58 edge with less than nine minutes to go. Goodman would push the lead into double digits with this trey with 2:10 remaining.
Gwynedd held the advantage on the glass over John Jay, 40-35, improving to 5-1 when they outrebound their opponent this season. Junior
Seth Heinicke (Warminster, Pa./Calvary Christian) pulled down a game-high nine.
Hyden would finish with just seven points, but added three assists, two blocks, and a rebound. Junior
Tom McKeefery (North Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) led the block party with three, tying a career high.
Gwynedd Mercy heads to Florida where they'll play three games over a four-day span. First up is an exhibition game against Division II Lynn University on Monday followed by games on Wednesday and Thursday in the Northwood University Rappaport Holiday Tournament.
