GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Tournament MVP Melissa Tobie had game highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead Montclair State to the 2013 Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament Title with an 80-51 win over the host Griffins Saturday afternoon.

Gwynedd Mercy's Natasha Matthews (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) registered 11 points as the junior was named to the all-tournament team.

The Red Hawks (2-0) slowly built a double-digit lead in the first half only to see MSU pull away in the second to claim the championship for the second year in a row.

Freshman Charlotte Kucowski (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) added nine points, six boards, and two blocks off the bench for GM, who was outrebounded 62-33. 35 of Montclair's 62 rebounds were on the offensive side, which led to 23 second-chance points.

The Griffins, who shot 27% (8-of-29) in the first half and trailed 33-17 at the break, rebounded in the second, hitting on 12-of-25 attempts (48%). The Red Hawks finished on a 27-for-78 (34.6%) pack, including eight three-pointers.
Rachael Krauss added 13 points nine caroms while teammate Nicosia Henry had nine points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.

In the consolation game, Sarah Payonk had game highs of 26 points and 14 boards to lead Scranton (1-1) to a 79-49 win over Washington College. Emily Hubley led the Shorewomen (0-2) with 20 points.

Joining Matthews and Tobie on the all-tournament team was Henry, Mitchell, and Payonk .

Gwynedd Mercy will be right back here at the Griffin Complex on Wednesday when they host DeSales at 7 p.m.
