IMMACULATA, PA. --  Sophomore Natasha Matthews (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown) finished with a career-high 32 points and added 12 rebounds to help lead Gwynedd-Mercy to an 81-75 win Monday night over Immaculata.  With the win, the Griffins remain unblemished in CSAC play.  Matthews also recorded her second double-double of the season.

The Griffins (10-5, 6-0 CSAC) jumped out to an early 10-2 lead thanks to an eight-point spurt spearheaded by Matthews. The Mighty Macs tried to answer with a Sara Smith three-point play to give the Macs their only lead at 19-18 with 8:32 remaining in the first half. Gwynedd would answer right back with a 9-0 run of their own. Two Matthews layups, a Kristen Fuery (Dresher, Pa. / Upper Dublin) three pointer and a fast break layup by freshman C.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty) off a Fuery steal would put the Griffins back on top, 27-19, and they looked create some separation.

Matthews had a dominating first half, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine caroms.  Fuery had a hot hand in the half as well, connecting on four-straight from beyond the arc.  The Griffins hot shooting gave them a 50-38 lead heading into the break.

In the second, Gwynedd had their largest lead of the stanza at 77-61 with 4:34 remaining on a bucket from Matthews.  It would be the last field goal for the game as the Mighty Macs (6-10, 4-3 CSAC) were able to claw the deficit to just four (79-75) with 48 ticks left. After two missed GM free throws, Immaculata looked to make it a one-possession game but their shot was no good. Sophomore Shea Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) was able to corral the rebound and go on to hit two from the line with seconds remaining to help ice the victory.

Gwynedd shot (32-of-67) 47.8% from the floor. Wassel contributed a double-double performance as well, notching her sixth of the season (19 points/11 rebounds). Fuery finished with 15 points connecting on five three pointers.

The Griffins held Immaculata to 38.8% shooting (26-of-67) from the field and forced 21 turnovers. Adriana Sciascia led the Mighty Macs with 19 points. Chrissy Esbensen and Smith each scored 18.

Gwynedd outrebounded Immaculata, 42-41.  The Griffins pulled down seventeen offensive rebounds converting on 16 second chance points.

The Griffins return home Wednesday evening to the Griffin Complex hosting Cabrini in a matchup of two unbeaten CSAC Teams.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. as part of a conference doubleheader.
