BOYERTOWN, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy was held to three hits in falling to Neumann, 5-0, in the first day of the CSAC Tournament at Bear Stadium.
The Griffins will now play Marywood, who fell to Keystone, tomorrow in an elimination game at 3 p.m.
Neumann's Russ Gilliam went all nine innings, striking out four while walking three. Gwynedd starter
Andrew Sinon (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) fanned five as he lasted into the seventh. The Knights got to him in the third, scoring three runs and again in the seventh with two more.
Senior
Kevin Smeraglio (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost) reached base three times, twice via a base on balls and once on an error. He also stole two bases.
Gilliam was able to keep the Griffins in check, retiring seven-straight batters between the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Dave Kalash added a solo home run and Will Flores added an RBI single to tack on two runs in the eighth.
Sinon allowed four earned runs on nine hits with no walks.
