GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – #25 Neumann took a pair in a CSAC twinbill on Tuesday as the Knights won game one, 8-6, and the nightcap, 7-5.

The Griffins (9-14, 0-6 CSAC) held early leads in both contests but could not secure a victory on the day.

In game one, Gwynedd plated five runs on five hits and an error to jump out to a lead. With runners on second and third, a string of four-straight RBI singles and later a double steal of second and home made it 5-0 for GM starter Andrew Sinon (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan).

Junior Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), who scored a run in the first, scored again in the second on a RBI double from junior John Burns (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) to make it 6-0.

The Knights (19-6, 5-1 CSAC) chipped away, getting a run in the third and two more in the fourth. In the fifth , Neumann took their first lead scoring four unearned runs on just two hits and an error.

Down 7-6, the Griffins threatened in the bottom of the frame, but Neumann's Mike Dicken, who started the inning in place of starter Matthew Smith, got out of a jam with runners on first and second with one out with back-to-back groundouts.

Kevin Flanigan, who was 2-for-4, drove in his second run of the day in the seventh with a two-out RBI.

Lynch finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double. Freshman Rick Elfreth (Sicklerville, N.J./St. Augustine) had three hits and a stolen base.

Sinon went all seven innings, allowing just three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Game two started identically to the first game as the Griffins used RBI hits from Martin and Burns for a 2-0 lead.

Neumann countered with an RBI sac fly in the third and a run-scoring double to knot it up a 2-2.

Martin struck again in the fifth bringing home Lynch on his second RBI double of the game, this time with two outs to take the lead once again.

Neumann took advantage of a key error in the sixth to reclaim a lead. After a two-out RBI double from Buddy Elgin, he would later score as a liner to right popped out of the glove of Elfreth to give the Knights a 4-3 lead.

Sophomore Dante Cassano (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) led off the sixth with a double to left center. He would steal third and come around to score on a throwing error on ball hit to short to tie the game again.

Another key error opened the door for a four-run seventh for Neumann. With runners on first and second and two outs, Tyler Drinkard hit a ball to third base that couldn't be handled to get the force out and to end the inning. The next batter was Flanigan, who added some insurance with a bases-loaded triple for a three-run lead.

The Griffins made it interesting in the last of the seventh as a two-out RBI from Cassano cut it to 7-5 and put the tying run to the plate. Neumann reliever Erik Klimoff got a fly out to right to notch his second save on the day.

Martin finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Reliever Sean Muscovitch (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) took the loss, as just five of his runs were earned in three innings of work.

Gwynedd-Mercy is right back at it tomorrow when #11-ranked and familiar foe Alvernia visits in a 4 p.m. start.
