true Gwynedd-Mercy 5, Marywood 1

BOX SCORE

SCRANTON, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy picked up a 5-1 CSAC victory at Marywood on Friday. Senior pitcher Andrew Sinon (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) went the distance, giving up one run on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Freshman John Salvatore (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy Ghost) was 2-for-4 with an RBI double and run scored.

The Griffins (22-15, 10-6 CSAC) trailed 1-0 until the fifth when Kevin Smeraglio (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost) executed a suicide squeeze with runners on the corners to score Eric Heaney (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham). Cassano gave GM a 2-1 in the sixth with an RBI single.

After yielding a run off a passed ball in the third, Sinon allowed just three baserunners the rest of the way to record his second complete game of the season.

Gwynedd tacked on some insurance runs, with one in the eighth and and two in the ninth. A wild throw on a double steal with men on first and second, aided Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) to score. Salvatore  had his hand in both runs in the ninth, doubling home Josh Van Horn (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and later scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Martin scored and walked twice and stole a base.

Mike Diskin and Jon Woytach each had two of the five hits for the Pacers (21-15, 8-8 CSAC).

The two teams will meet tomorrow in a doubleheader at Gwynedd Valley beginning at noon.
