GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Fueled by a 12-goal first half, Gwynedd-Mercy won its fourth-straight game in defeating Notre Dame (Md.), 17-8, in CSAC action, and secured a playoff spot.
Senior
Morgan Hosler (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and freshman
Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) paced the Gwynedd offense with four goals apiece. Sophomore
Amy Powell (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Meeting) added two scores and two assists.
The Griffins (6-6, 4-2 CSAC) used three, four, and five goal spurts in the first half to build a 12-3 lead. The Gators' Allison Terry, who had a game-high five goals, scored the last two of the half to cut it to a seven-goal GM edge.
Freshman
Rachel Irons (Delran, N.J./Delran) scored with 17:57 in the second, giving the Griffins their largest lead of the game (17-6). The Gators added a pair of scores in the final 6:36 to account for the final score.
Molly Murray, Ashley Cumberland, and Dee Waters also tallied for Notre Dame (6-6, 3-4 CSAC).
The tandem of freshman
Marina Hubbard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and
Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) each played a half and each made six saves apiece. The Gators' Mary Briggs made seven.
Irons had a goal and a helper while senior
Shannon Carabba (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield) and junior
Jenna Gaydosh (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) each scored twice.
Gwynedd-Mercy will welcome King's here on Thursday night in non-league action at 7 p.m. for senior night.
